Great work. Everything was perfect and even made suggestions when the type of trophy I wanted was no longer in stock. Would definitely use them again in the future.

The Client
Brighton Grammar School (BGS), founded in 1882, is an Anglican school for boys that delivers a holistic and values-led education from Early Learning to Year 12. With a focus on academic excellence, high performance, and character development, BGS provides an environment where boys are supported to grow into capable, confident young men.
Guided by the values of passion, respect, integrity, and accountability, the school is known for its innovative thinking and its commitment to creating spaces that reflect and support its educational philosophy.
The Vision
As BGS prepared to open the doors to its newly built Duigan Centre - a hub for Science, Creativity and Entrepreneurship - they sought to create an installation that was more than decorative. The idea was to feature a donor recognition wall composed of custom-engraved timber panels that would serve both as a striking visual centrepiece and a meaningful tribute to the community that helped bring the Centre to life.
The installation needed to reflect the ambition and educational purpose of the building, while aligning seamlessly with the school’s branding, tone, and architectural plans.
Why They Came to Scotia Engraving
We had already collaborated successfully with BGS on a previous project, so when it came time to select a partner for this important work, the school turned to us once again. They knew they could trust our team to deliver not only quality craftsmanship but also a consultative, flexible approach that would adapt to the project’s evolving needs.
Our competitive pricing and willingness to work within detailed design constraints sealed the decision.
Our Engraving Solution
This was a technically complex brief, and we were engaged from the outset to help bring the concept to life. The installation involved:
- Timber panels in three distinct sizes
- Bevelled edge finishes for a polished, uniform look
- Engraving that would preserve the school’s custom pantone colours
- A requirement was set for the engraved areas to appear recessed and remain the same colour as the surrounding timber, necessitating paint application after engraving to ensure uniformity across all panels.
We provided full pre-production samples to ensure every detail met the school’s expectations. After samples were approved, we delivered proof copies of engraving layouts before beginning production.
Because of the modular design, the school also had the flexibility to add new names over time. We made this process simple: engraved panels could be removed and replaced seamlessly, giving the installation longevity beyond the initial launch.
How We Collaborated
Our partnership with BGS is built on clarity, communication, and creative problem-solving. With this project, the process included:
Sample delivery in all three colour options for initial approval
Proofing of all panel artwork to ensure alignment with branding guidelines
Ongoing communication during production to accommodate last-minute additions
Final delivery of high-quality, fully finished timber panels, ready for installation
Throughout the project, we remained focused on flexibility and precision, ensuring the work was delivered to specifications, on time, and with the polish the school expected.
Challenges and Outcomes
Matching pantone-specific paint colours on timber and ensuring durability was no small task. Add to that the need for bevelled edges, a consistent engraved finish across multiple panel sizes, and coordinating ongoing additions, it was a project with several moving parts.
But with thorough prototyping and an experienced production process, we delivered a tailored solution that exceeded expectations. The finished panels now feature prominently in the Duigan Centre, serving as both a celebration of the school’s vision and a tangible symbol of community support.
The Impact
This project added more than just visual interest to a new campus space, it brought together community, legacy, and innovation in one installation.
Brand: The panels aligned perfectly with BGS's visual identity and architectural plans. Every finish, edge, and typeface was on brand.
Culture: Recognising donors through a flexible, permanent feature reinforces the school’s values of gratitude, integrity, and collaboration.
Reputation: The successful delivery of such a precise and complex project demonstrates the school’s commitment to excellence in every detail.
Longevity: With the ability to update the installation over time, the piece remains a living, growing part of the school’s story.
Working with Brighton Grammar School on this project was a true collaboration. We are proud to contribute our engraving services to an installation that not only honours those who support the school, but also reflects the spirit of innovation and purpose that defines the Duigan Centre itself.
