Great work. Everything was perfect and even made suggestions when the type of trophy I wanted was no longer in stock. Would definitely use them again in the future.

The Client
Founded in 1923, the Old Xaverians Football Club (OXFC) is one of Australia’s most celebrated community sporting clubs. Originally established as an alumni team for Xavier College, the club has since grown into a Premier Grade powerhouse in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Today, OXFC fields 10 football teams and five netball teams, offering inclusive pathways for over 400 players each year across all genders and skill levels.
With a focus on respect, community, and player development, the club remains committed to providing a positive sporting environment for everyone who wears the red and black.
The Vision
For the 2024 season, OXFC undertook a complete refresh of their awards system. Several perpetual trophies required repair, and the club sought a new standard for medals and presentation pieces, especially with the introduction of newly named awards designed to honour key figures in the club’s history.
The goal was two-fold: elevate the quality and personalisation of their awards, and streamline the process to reduce stress during the busiest time of the season.
Why They Came to Scotia Engraving
This collaboration began with a simple conversation. After seeing some of our previous work and visiting our workshop, OXFC’s leadership felt confident we could deliver the high-quality outcome they were after, on time and within budget.
From that first walkthrough to the final delivery, we worked closely with the club to provide a better product, stronger service, and more flexibility than their previous supplier, all with a collaborative and enthusiastic approach.
Our Engraving Solution
OXFC wanted to move away from generic medals and create something uniquely theirs. We proposed a two-tiered solution:
- Custom-shaped brass medals, precision-engraved and colour-filled to match the club’s branding. These included both larger medals for Best & Fairest awards and smaller medals for other team-based accolades.
- A fully bespoke 3D-cast medal for the club’s revered Terry Landrigan Players’ Player Award, featuring a sculpted impression of the life member’s face, crafted from scratch.
All medals were produced using high-quality brass with a protective lacquer finish to ensure longevity. To make future seasons easier, we supplied 3–5 years’ worth of stock, helping the club lock in consistency and reduce costs over time.
Alongside the medals, we also repaired several of the club’s perpetual trophies and handled all custom engraving requirements for the season’s award winners.
How We Collaborated
Timing was tight. Like many clubs, OXFC had a compressed window between the end of the season and awards night. But thanks to clear communication and fast turnarounds, we got the job done.
Here’s how the process unfolded:
- Initial meeting mid-season to explore needs and showcase material samples
- Multiple quotes and proof copies prepared, including dimension specs, finish options, and custom artwork
- Iterative feedback and approvals, especially for the 3D cast design
- Coordination on engraving final names once the season concluded
- Full delivery ahead of awards night, with everything packaged and ready to present
Throughout, we maintained regular contact to ensure every detail was considered and executed with care.
Challenges and Outcomes
The biggest hurdle was the late-season rush: collating award names and engraving everything with limited time. High customisation added further complexity, particularly with the 3D-cast Landrigan medal. But with solid planning, expert production, and open communication, we delivered a full suite of trophies and medals that reflected the prestige of the club’s history and future.
From the engraved finishes to the structural repairs on older trophies, every element was made to last.
The Impact
The feedback from members, players, and recipients was overwhelmingly positive. The new medals added prestige to the occasion, while the perpetual trophy restorations helped preserve the club’s heritage.
- Brand: The new awards brought OXFC’s identity to life. Bold, traditional, and proudly custom.
- Culture: Honouring club legends like Terry Landrigan through tailored designs added emotional weight to the awards.
- Reputation: The professionalism of the final products reflected well on the club and helped elevate the entire awards night.
- Efficiency: Pre-purchasing stock means future seasons will be easier to manage, with no compromise on quality.
Working with the Old Xaverians Football Club was a genuine pleasure. Their commitment to tradition and inclusivity mirrors our own values, and we were proud to play a part in helping them celebrate the people who make their club great.
