The unique feature of SCOTIA's business is the high quality of Hand
Engraving. This trade has been in the Stewart family for approximately
132 years. James Stewart was the pioneer in the family engraving
trade, of which he began learning in Glasgow, Scotland in about
the year 1870. Ten years later, James started the family tradition
when he opened the Glasgow Engraving Company.
By
the turn of the century James' son, also a James Stewart had commenced
learning the engraving trade at the age of thirteen (13). Ten years
later in 1911, James Stewart II migrated to Queensland, Australia
and set up his own business of Engraving. His son James E. (Ted)
Stewart - James III - followed in the family footsteps and began
his study of engraving practices in 1932. After fourteen years learning
the trade, James III and his father James II, opened the doors of
SCOTIA ENGRAVING COMPANY in 1946. Their workshop was in Russell
Street, Melbourne.
In
1959, the tradition continued as 4th generation son of Ted Stewart,
John.I.Stewart, joined SCOTIA ENGRAVING CO. Seven years later his
brother Graeme.E.Stewart joined the firm and together, a lucrative
partnership developed. Now located in South Melbourne under the
guidance of director Graeme Stewart, SCOTIA ENGRAVING CO. continues
to prosper.
The
year 2000 realised the beginning of the new generation of Stewart
engravers. Graeme's son Ross.A.B.Stewart joined the firm, whilst
his brother James A.E.
(James IV) joined in 2002. With over 130 years experience supporting
Ross & James,
SCOTIA ENGRAVING CO. is well positioned to remain "a cut above
the rest".
